When one considers LOVE, it is often included within feelings of desire, attachments, or emotional connections. But real love, if understood correctly, is beyond definition. Love stands by itself as unconditional, all inclusive, and as an impartial state closely associated with Wisdom. The qualities of Love are exhibited through actions based on Equinimity, Joy, and Compassion without discrimination.
Love is poorly understood. ReaL LOVE is beyond terms like you and me. No pronoun can support its qualities. The "I" before it and the "you" after it are totally dependant on the personalities of the "i" and "you", which is why after some time the sentence can change from "I love you", to expressions like, "I don't like you" etc.. While it may be true there are feelings associated with certain expressions of love, the more profound qualities of love are buried under wants, hopes, and dreams, all of which are impermanent.
Actually, LOVE never changes. It neither grows, nor diminishes.
So what can we human beings with our imperfect selves do to acquire the kind of Love
mentioned here? The Buddha (Wisdom Teacher) taught that Love is an innate quality buried
under our well- nourished ignorance. Which means, all we have to do is remove the ignorance,
which arises in emotional content as desire, anger, together with greed, and our awareness will
become more apparent along with our innate qualities. Our innate qualities are often described
as our original Buddha Nature. I am not suggesting that this is an easy accomplishment. After
all, most of us have been practicing a level of ignorance, instead of wisdom, all of our lives.
College degrees behind your name have little to do with loving wisdom, and in fact can add to
the delusion through the habit of egotistical self-admiration.
The ignorance, I speak of, is that aspect of the human condition that instructs us how to get along within society, in one way or another. There are many in the professions of supporting or helping to improve our sense of self. But the human condition has largely been damaged by certain aspects based on the limited understanding of the self. What has been missing is improvement of the human condition based on WISDOM, It doesn't take much to prove this. Just look at politics, environmental conditions, jails, refugees, and even our schools. All are damaged because of reinforcement of faulty ideas and not putting to the forefront Wisdom Education.
