Since the unchanging essence of Love, Intrinsic Awareness, or Buddha Nature, is constantly present in each of us, why do we suffer?
Is it because we have buried these pure qualities under our need to be human?
Personally speaking, my answer is yes! From a small child I remember being told how to behave 'properly', and examples of that sometimes made no sense at all to me. But when responding accordingly, there were positive reinforcements which made me feel good, and accepted. So I followed the social norms.
So being taught certain social graces definitely can be helpful. Things like saying 'please' or 'thank you', and listening when being spoken to, are helpful in all situations. But what about instances of being treated in ways that are hurtful? There was never any formal trainings of how to respond when these happen, until my experience through explorations of the Buddhist philosophical approaches. Some of this study, I will share with you.
By way of introduction, from my experience I have concluded two things:
1. We are first of all, Spiritual Beings having a human experience.
2. We are NOT, human beings having a spiritual experience.
When we forget these two things as we go through our life experiences, we often use approaches that don't work efficiently, .
For example when faced with insults, intentionally or unintentionally, do you react with compassion or with harsh words? Below are antidotes for harmful behavior.
For ANGER, one can awaken ones' own COMPASSION and use PATIENCE or SILENCE.
For GREED/EGO FIXATION, one can recognize GENEROSITY or EQUINIMITY.
For CONFUSION one can help with DISCRIMINATING AWARENESS.
For ENVY/JEALOUSY one can practice REJOYCING in others accomplishments.
For IGNORANCE one can awaken KNOWING through shared AWARENESS.
These take practice, but with use, little by little they become the memory as part of our natural function which subsequently make our lives much easier. Try them out.
pray that the REMEMBERING will reinforce our ability to be more humane with each other.

May our essential awareness result in a more harmonious sharing of our lives together on this planet. Thus may all beings benefit.
